Natural Bug Spray with Essential Oils August 21 2015

Natural Citizen is proud to announce our new natural bug spray with essential oils that is not only natural, but it is also classified as a deet free bug spray.

Natural Bug Spray with Essential Oils

Our natural bug spray with essential oils is made with active ingredients that are derived from naturally occurring matter, namely plants, and with minimal processing.

According to the National Institute of Health, natural products are derived from living organisms such as plants and even fungi and bacteria. According to their definition, extracts from living organisms, naturally occurring in nature, are classified as natural. Included also are vitamins and minerals and probiotics. Most of the ingredients in our DEET free bug spray are natural, making this a natural bug spray with essential oils.

What is a Natural Bug Spray with Essential Oils?

Similarly, the FDA has some direction on what constitutes a natural product as it relates to packaging. Basically, the FDA says that most food is probably not completely natural. However, as long as the product does not contain added color, artificial flavors, or synthetic additives it can be considered natural. By this definition, completely natural would be on par with plucking a wild blackberry from a blackberry bush way out in a remote forest, being sure that it was never introduced to fertilizer or other human interference. According to this definition, our bug spray can be considered a natural bug spray made with essential oils and other natural ingredients. We definitely do not add color, flavoring (yuk! don't drink bug spray, please), or other synthetic ingredients not derived from plants.

Let's break down the natural bug spray

  • Water – this ingredient does not need much explanation
  • Soybean Oil – pressed from soybeans
  • Essential Oils – naturally occurring oils in plants that are extracted by pressing, steaming, or by the CO2 method
  • Xanthan Gum – plant derived thickening agent often used in foods
  • Citric Acid – derived from citrus fruits
